Tourist visas for Ethiopia must be obtained online through the official e-Visa system before arrival. Travelers are required to apply in advance to ensure a smooth entry process.
Foreign nationals from the following countries are eligible to apply for an e-Visa:
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea Republic, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Thailand, and United States. For China, this includes passports issued in Hong Kong (SAR China) and Macau (SAR China). It is recommended to verify the latest eligibility requirements through the official Ethiopian e-Visa website or the nearest Ethiopian embassy.
The e-Visa fees are approximately $50 USD for a one-month stay and $75 USD for a three-month stay. Payment must be made online during the application process.

A departure tax of $20 USD is levied on all foreign travelers. This tax is usually included in the airfare.
Transit passengers at Bole International Airport do not require a visa if they remain in the permitted transit area and depart within 12 hours. Travelers planning to stay longer should check with Ethiopian immigration authorities regarding transit visa requirements.
Visa extensions can be applied for at the Main Department for Immigration and Nationality Affairs in Addis Ababa. Travelers should initiate the extension process before their current visa expires.
