Located in the heart of Bilen is the ideal place to relax and connect with the naturalistic beauty in and around the lodge. Like an oasis, filled with lots of vegetation and cozy little Bungalows, it stands alone in the hot Afar Savannah and overlooks into a vast plain from which wild animals can be often spotted with bare eyes.

Having grown up in the region, owner Dimitris Assimacopoulos (also owner of Libah Hunting & Photo Safaris) has developed a great passion and a lot of experience in the area. He has designed and built Animalia Lodge with the same passion, aiming for it to became the base point for the tourists who want to discover and explore the region.

During early morning and late afternoons tailored tours can be organized to spot animals such as Hamadryas Baboons, Salt’s Dikdiks, Somali Soemmering Gazelles, Northern Gerenuks, Beisa Oryxs, Worthogs, Gravy Zebras and many more. As darkness shifts in, Lions and Leopards may also be spotted.

Visits to the local villages make a great opportunity to experience the lifestyle of the Afar people and enjoy their picturesque and unique nature. As the heat of the sun rises, just as the wildlife retreats in the bush, the lodge offers each guest a peaceful and relaxing setting to retreat to, whether in the caressed by a cool breeze and sound of nature.

To best experience Animalia Lodge and its surroundings, it is recommended to book group packages, carefully tailored to suite your needs, from transformation to and from Addis Ababa if necessary, accommodation, photo and sightseeing Safari and specially prepared cuisine with optional, outdoor freshly cooked barbeque meals.

Given the distance of Animalia Lodge from Addis Ababa, the journey can be easily split with overnight stay in “Buffet de la Gare”, historic hotel in Awash town run by “Madame Kiki”, mother of Dimitris, and incorporating tours to nearby attraction such as the Awash National Park, Awash river waterfalls, hot springs and Hertalle lake.
